Board Members
The Lancelin Primary School Board includes representatives from parents, staff and the wider community. The Principal is also a member of the Board.
Parent and staff positions are filled through a nomination process. If there are more nominations than available positions, an election is held. Community members may be invited to join the Board based on the skills and perspectives they can bring.
Role of the Board
The School Board works alongside the Principal to support the long-term direction and success of the school. Its role is focused on governance rather than day-to-day operations.
The Board may:
- Contribute to the school’s strategic direction, including the Business Plan and key priorities
- Review and endorse the school’s annual budget
- Consider and approve policies, including the Dress Code
- Approve voluntary contributions, charges and book lists
- Monitor school performance and progress
- Support positive connections between the school and the broader community
What the Board Does Not Do
To ensure clear roles and responsibilities, the School Board does not:
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the school
- Become involved in individual matters relating to staff, students or parents
- Direct teaching and learning programs
- Advocate for personal or special interest agendas
Board Meetings
The Board meets at least once per term, with additional meetings scheduled if required.
Meetings follow a formal structure, with agendas and minutes recorded. Members are expected to attend regularly. If a member is unable to attend a meeting, they should submit their apologies in advance. Consistent attendance is important to ensure the Board can meet quorum and make decisions effectively.
What is involved in being a Board Member?
Being a Board member is a rewarding way to contribute to your child’s school and the broader community.
- The Board meets four times per year
- Meetings are structured, collaborative and focused on governance and strategy
- There are no fundraising or weekend commitments as part of the Board role (these sit with the P&C)
- Members are not required to have specific qualifications—just an interest in supporting the school
Board membership includes parents, staff and community members, with parents forming the majority.
