2026 Term 2 Week 6

From the Principal

Dear Parents, Carers and Members of our School Community,

The end of Week 9!

It has certainly been a very cold start to our days, but despite the chilly weather, our students continue to arrive at school with happy faces, positive attitudes, and bright smiles. As we head towards the end of the term, we look forward to another busy and successful week of learning, friendship, and achievement next week.

REPORTED CASE OF SHINGLES

Please be advised that there has been a reported case of shingles within our school community.

Shingles is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox. While shingles itself is not spread from person to person, the virus can be passed on through direct contact with the rash and may cause chickenpox in someone who has not previously had chickenpox or been vaccinated against it. Families are encouraged to monitor their children for any signs of illness and seek medical advice if they have concerns. If your child is unwell, please keep them at home and notify the school of their absence.

Thank you for your cooperation in helping us maintain a healthy school environment.

FOTOWORKS GOLDEN TICKET WINNER

Congratulations to Kaia and her family! Our school was fortunate to receive a $110 Golden Ticket, and after using a randomiser to select a winner, Kaia's name was drawn. Her family will now receive $110 to spend on school photos next term. We are delighted to pass on this prize and hope they enjoy this wonderful opportunity. Congratulations, Kaia!

Please be reminded Photo Envelops are to be filled out and returned to the school office by June 30. Sibling Photo Envelopes are available from the front office.

WINTER CARNIVAL

Our Winter Carnival held at Splendid Park today was a wonderful success, it was fun- filled day for our Year 5 and 6 students despite the chilly weather. Students enjoyed playing Netball and Soccer with their friends while showing great enthusiasm and school spirit. Thank you to Ebannie Barrett for organising and assisting with today. A big thank you to John Beattie for all your help and support, couching our soccer team today, you are a legend. Also, a thank you to all the parents, family members and friends who were on the sidelines cheering and supporting our teams. Today's event was such an enjoyable experience for everyone.

YEAR 2 ASSEMBLY

We invite families and community members to join us for our Year 2 Assembly on Wednesday, 24 June. It promises to be a special occasion, with the announcement of the Guilderton Colouring Competition winners and a special presentation recognising some very deserving people. We will also celebrate our usual assembly highlights, including the class item, Student of the Month, and Aussie of the Month awards. We look forward to seeing you there and sharing in the achievements of our students.

SCHOOL JUMPERS

With the colder weather well and truly here, students are encouraged to wear their school jumpers to help stay warm throughout the day. Please ensure that all jumpers are clearly labelled with your child's name so they can be easily returned if misplaced.

Next week's newsletter will be the last one for the term. Don't forget that Term 2 is an 11 week term, so we still have a couple of weeks of learning and fun before the school holidays begin!

Take care, stay warm, and we look forward to seeing everyone for another great week ahead.

Important Dates

Breakfast Club Help Needed

Breakfast Club is an important part of our children's school day, providing them with a positive start to learning. We are so grateful to the parents, caregivers and community members who generously volunteer their time to support this program.

If you are able to spare some time and would like to support our students, we would love to hear from you.

Please contact the School Office if you can help. Thank you for supporting our school community!

Lunch Orders

A reminder that lunch order days are- Monday, Wednesday & Friday. Unfortunately Paddle Pops are no longer available. Another friendly reminder the school doesn't keep a large amount of petty cash on hand. We completely understand that you may not always have the exact change, but if you do need to pay with notes, we'd really appreciate it if you could please use smaller denominations where possible.

THANK YOU for you understanding and support!

Everyday habits for children’s mental health fitness start at home

Anxiety and depression are on the rise in children, with an estimated one in seven experiencing mental health problems. For parents and carers, that number can be concerning.

So what can you do to strengthen your child’s mental health to help them feel good, build emotional resilience and cope with life’s challenges?

Building good mental health habits doesn’t need to be complicated. Creating positive family interactions, modelling how you handle stress well and looking after yourself can all go a long way in helping your child build their mental health muscles.

In the age of helicopter parenting, supporting children to take healthy risks and discover their capabilities is also important. While finding the right balance between encouraging safety and adventure in our children can be difficult, when we get it right, the benefits are huge.

When it comes to children’s mental health, perfectionistic tendencies can be overlooked. Spotting the early signs, normalising mistake making in your home, and praising your child for effort instead of results all make a big difference in supporting their mental health and wellbeing.

Read Triple P’s latest articles on children’s mental health to learn more about perfectionism, healthy risk taking and everyday habits to build kids’ emotional resilience to help you parent with confidence.

And don’t forget, Triple P’s online courses for parents and carers of children under 12 are free for families in Australia!
